Ottoman monuments of an unknown purpose on the hills between Besiktas and Tesvikiye, on the European side of Istanbul. I have no idea what they are, but they look like war memorials to me.
No signs or markers identify these graceful monuments. Nobody can read them since modern Turkey writes exclusively in the Latin Alphabet. Some "communist" vandals have recently sprayed "Fascism be damned!" on them, almost to illustrate the point.
