I found this dead snake, possibly squashed by a car, on a road in Evvia, Greece...
...a quick check of its head scales and dentition identifies it as a non-venomous water snake, Natrix natrix. Despite their name, these snakes can and do venture extensively on land.
Rest in peace my poor friend... I shall avenge you! We also saw a huge green snake in Evia, but it ran away before we could take pictures or identify its species.
